Reimagining the ExperienceBreaking New Ground
 Scope of project

To reimagine and reconstruct Phi Studio’s Still From Here installation within a short timeline for the Quoz Arts Festival in Dubai, while maintaining the original artistic experience but replacing heavy materials like epoxy and concrete for a modular, efficient, and sustainable setup.

The original artwork featured a sand-covered lightbox embedded in a concrete platform outdoors at Noor Riyadh. Relocating Still From Here to an indoor venue required an entirely new approach:

  1. Timeline Pressure: Installation within days to meet the festival deadline.
  2. Material Shift: Replacing heavy materials with lightweight, modular alternatives while preserving the look, feel, and function.
  3. Artist Collaboration: Ensuring Phi Studio’s vision was respected and flawlessly executed.

Bold Choices, Smart Moves

D4-PRO committed to delivering the same immersive experience with the following adjustments:

  • Custom Stage Deck: Pre-fabricated modular structures replaced poured concrete, enabling faster assembly and disassembly.
  • Innovative Material Use:
    • Mild Steel Frames for a sturdy foundation.
    • Ply Decking and Ramps for lightweight durability.
    • Acrylic Layering (amber and clear sheets) mimicked the illuminated epoxy effect.
    • Heavy-Duty Adhesive Vinyl ensured a smooth, seamless finish.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Minimal on-site fabrication, saving valuable time and resources.

Same Magic, New Build

Through collaboration, ingenuity, and meticulous execution, D4-PRO achieved:

Timely Delivery

Installation completed within two days, exceeding timeline expectations.

Faithful Reproduction

Viewers experienced the same light-sand interplay as the original.

Flexibility

The modular design allowed seamless relocation for extended display.

Cost and Time Savings

Lightweight, modular materials reduced labour and installation costs without compromising quality.

Turning Heads, Moving Minds

D4-PRO’s innovative approach reinforced its reputation for problem-solving and adaptability:

  • Phi Studio praised the team’s ability to reimagine the work for a new venue while preserving its soul.
  • Festival-goers engaged deeply with the installation, unaware of the behind-the-scenes transformation.
  • The project set a new benchmark for sustainable and modular art installations.

Building Brilliance

D4-PRO followed a systematic process to ensure success:

  1. Pre-Production: Off-site fabrication of modular steel and ply elements.
  2. Acrylic Innovation: Testing layered acrylic sheets to achieve epoxy-like transparency and light diffusion.
  3. On-Site Assembly: Modular structures were installed, levelled, and finished efficiently within two days.
  4. Sand Application: A precise 15mm layer of sand completed the experience.
