 Scope of project
The set design had to integrate with the artist's original vision, which required props that were both visually appealing and functional (e.g., a large fish prop had to open its mouth on stage). Additionally, strict sustainability guidelines demanded the use of recyclable materials, adding complexity to sourcing and production. The set was delivered on time, meeting both the artist’s detailed vision and the Expo’s sustainability requirements. D4 Pro’s expertise in functional and sustainable design reinforced their position as a reliable partner for technically challenging, high-visibility projects. Concept Development

Decisions

D4 Pro established a close working relationship with the artist, ensuring that the technical and design teams collaborated continuously. Recyclable materials were sourced early to align with sustainability goals, demonstrating D4 Pro’s adaptability and resourcefulness.

Initial Concept Alignment

We began by thoroughly understanding the artist’s original direction, ensuring the foundation of the set design was rooted in their vision. This provided a strong starting point for the creative process.

Tailoring to the Venue

Recognising the unique characteristics of the Terra Pavilion at Expo City, we adapted the design to complement the venue’s architectural features and spatial dynamics. This ensured the set would integrate seamlessly with the space.

Thematic Refinement

To resonate with COP 28’s environmental focus, we refined the visual and thematic elements, weaving in motifs that reflected sustainability and ecological awareness. This step ensured the design aligned with the event’s larger message.

Expanding Key Visuals

Building on the artist’s concepts, we expanded key visual elements to amplify the impact of the design. By enhancing specific details, we created a dynamic and immersive set that captured attention.

Balancing Vision and Scale

Throughout the process, we maintained a balance between staying true to the artist’s vision and meeting the grand scale and expectations of COP 28. This synergy ensured the final design resonated both emotionally and thematically with its audience.

Design Implementation

Our role in Alyn extended from concept development to hands-on design implementation. Working within the Terra Pavilion’s unique spatial dynamics, we ensured each set element was not only visually aligned with the original concept but also technically sound for live staging. This included material selection, construction details, and logistical planning to accommodate both the venue and the demands of a live audience. Our approach kept the design authentic to the vision while prioritising functionality, sustainability, and seamless integration with the space.

Sustainability Auditing

For Alyn, sustainability was embedded at every stage of production. With our ISO 20121 certification in Sustainable Event Production and ISO 14064-1 for Greenhouse Gas and Carbon Footprint Management, we took a comprehensive approach to sustainability auditing. This included evaluating materials, processes, and logistics to minimise environmental impact. From sourcing eco-friendly materials to optimising energy use on-site, we ensured that every element of the production aligned with strict sustainability standards and contributed positively to the environmental goals of COP 28.

Comprehensive Project Coordination

Our delivery management for Alyn encompassed every aspect of on-site execution, starting with initial logistics and extending to the final installation. This included creating and managing a detailed construction timeline, securing necessary permits, and ensuring compliance with Terra Pavilion’s regulations.

Vendor and Material Management

We coordinated closely with vendors, ensuring timely material deliveries and resolving any logistical challenges. Every stage of the build was meticulously aligned with the site’s stringent requirements, maintaining efficiency and precision throughout the process.

Ensuring Seamless Delivery

From setup logistics to safety protocols and site-specific compliance, we oversaw every detail to guarantee a seamless installation. The result was a fully executed, on-time delivery of the project, perfectly prepared for COP 28.
